FOREWORD
It’s rewarding to see that this educational program has experienced an increasing appreciation from the community of the inherited metabolic disorders over the years.
The 6th edition of this comprehensive program aims at continuing to provide the opportunity of enjoying and learning from open discussion in an informal environment on different topics and cases, sometimes not even easy to encounter in clinical practice, with the goal to create a school for nutrition in inborn metabolism.
The field of inherited metabolic disorders demands constant vigilance and adaptation due to its complexity and the evolving nature of medical science, and this program is conceived to equip the participants with the latest knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively manage and treat these challenging conditions.
In the program of this edition the faculty will provide the context for scientific exchange based on the latest research and advancements in the field, with particular attention on how to interpret and apply clinical guidelines by understanding their development, limitations, and implications for patient care. It seems important to animate discussions with the participants to understand if and how guidelines in this field influence nutrition practices, and how these interact with pharmacological interventions.
The program has also been pondered to include a thorough discussion addressing the unique challenges faced by transition from the paediatric to the adult setting, and more so, on the nutritional and pharmacological approach for adults with inherited metabolic taking into account the evolution of their health in the future decades. Overall, the central role of nutrition and the association of the appropriate pharmacological treatment of patients with inherited disorders of metabolism will be the theme of panel discussions as well as practical exercises to allow the participants of this educational program to further improve patient outcomes and enhance the quality of life for those affected by these conditions.
